WHAT IS NEW

ABOUT THE ENERGY CERTIFICATE

Hausbau und Energieeffizienz

We want and we must save energy. Whether for the price so high, the economic cost or, increasingly, to protect the environment. In recent years, we are seeing how the fight against climate change and sustainability is stronger. But to have results, we must start at our homes.

To know if we are efficient in our house and what are the measures that we can carry out, the best tool is the energy certificate. So far a large unknown, which is only requested by its obligation to sell or rent a home.

The energy certificate is the best way to know that our house is efficient and sustainable. A few years ago, few people knew it was, but since it was mandatory 4 years ago, it is a fashionable subject. It is true that 10 years ago was already mandatory for new housing, but even so, was not well known. It has been the implementation of the new regulations that have made it really popular.

Are our home as efficient as we think?

If we take into account the 45,000 energy certificates made by Certicalia in the last four years, we can say that we are not as sustainable as we think. The implementation of the energy ratings of Spanish homes is quite low.

The most usual is the E rating with 53%. But the most efficient certification is the A and only 0.16% manages to obtain that qualification. The B certification, although less common, is not very implemented. Only 0.20% have a B certification.

This result is due to the fact that most of the buildings that have been sold or rented were built under old rules that did not take into account some factors, such as energy efficiency.

Can we be positive about the energy certification of our homes?

In the case of the owners, we can say that not much. But, it is also true that every day they give greater importance to energy saving and value more and more energy efficiency as added value. This results in more actions of energy rehabilitation in old houses and in the growth of building more efficient buildings.

In the case of buildings built in the last years and those that are under construction we can make a much more positive balance. And that is thanks to the new Technical Code of the building.

And as for buyers, more and more are looking to buy or rent apartments or houses that hold the certificate because they know that, in the long run, they will result in energy and economic savings. The Light bill can be reduced simply by changing some habits. For example, using energy-saving light bulbs, program the thermostat, … but if we really want to save, we must improve the energy efficiency of the installations and the thermal envelope (facades, roofs …).

The future of energy efficiency

The ignorance remains the pending subject, so from Certicalia we are told that for them the information to the client is a very important pillar. In addition, energy efficiency should be encouraged, not only from the obligation of the certificate when selling or renting, but from the training and the contribution of aid and subsidies by the administration.

In the last four years, different aids and subsidies have been offered for energy rehabilitation at national and local level to improve the energy efficiency of buildings by improving the insulation of façades and roofs, changing windows, or Replacement of boilers.

The owners of many buildings and homes have benefited, and have managed to improve their energy rating, and more importantly, their energy efficiency, household well-being and economic savings.
